ding to a new USA Today/Gallup poll a majority of Americans do not want Congress to cut funds for the war in Iraq, even though a growing number believe the cause is lost. Some 59 percent of respondents now say the war was a mistake; that’s the highest percentage since 2003 and matches the number from September 2005. The new data brings the yearly average to 58 percent, and the yearly trend line shows a steady increase since the war began. And, the poll shows that 46 percent of Americans—the highest number to date—do not believe the US can win the war.
