Military retirees and active duty dependents can take an American Red Cross-sponsored dental assistant training program at no cost, and they’ll find it available at bases around the world. It’s a six-month course that includes learning the function of dental instruments by working alongside dentists. Once completed, the trainee gets a Red Cross certificate that “qualifies them to work in the civilian sector,” according to an Air Combat Command release, which notes also that the need for dental assistants is on the rise. Prospective trainees are encouraged to contact local Red Cross units to see if the course is available at a base nearby. (ACC report by SrA Matthew Clouse)
