During
the Year of the Air Force Family initiative, the Air Force learned that education is the top issue affecting its families, Suzie Schwartz, wife of Chief of Staff Gen. Norton Schwartz, told the Daily Report. Accordingly, one of the ways that USAF responded was by dedicating funding for more school liaisons, such that there is now a school liaison officer “at almost every Air Force base,” she wrote in a response to our query. Another lesson, she said, was that communicating with Air Force families can often times be a challenge, so USAF enhanced efforts already in place, such as the Key Spouse program. Mrs. Schwartz said she is confident that the Air Force will capitalize on the strong momentum generated during the past year “by continuing to improve our family support programs and ensuring people know what resources are available.”
A combined Navy and Air Force program is seeking to build a smaller version of a ubiquitous air-to-air missile that could give advanced aircraft, such as the Collaborative Combat Aircraft, greater magazine depth in a high-end fight.
