The US government will pay for the families of service members stationed at? Incirlik AB, Turkey, and those of staff at the US consulate in Adana to fly commercially out of the country, the Pentagon announced Thursday. The option is voluntary, and has been extended to about 900 people, Defense Department spokesman Peter Cook said in a briefing. Families that choose to fly out will be reimbursed. The decision was not made because of a specific threat, Cook said, but rather out of an “abundance of caution.” The US began manned combat operations from Incirlik in early August after Turkey eased restrictions on the use of the base. Cook said the announcement to the families was made Sept. 3 and it was too early to say how many people have decided to leave. (See the State Department’s Sept. 3 travel warning.)
Top Lawmakers Want 15 Percent Pay Raise for Enlisted Troops

A new law introduced by Congress would raise the pay rate 15 percent for junior enlisted troops and seek improvements on a range of quality of life issues, such as pay and compensation, child care, housing, health care access, and military spouse employment.
