Air Combat Command announced the recovery and identification of the remains of Army Air Corps pilot, 1st Lt. Robert L. McIntosh, who went missing after his P-38 crashed in bad weather over Italy in 1944. McIntosh was a decorated pilot who flew missions over three continents during more than two years of service. His remains, which were recovered and identified with the assistance of the Italian non?profit organization Archeologi dell’Aria, have been laid to rest in his hometown of Tipton, Ind. A single bone fragment, identified through DNA testing and dental records, was recovered.
