Navy EA-18G Growlers joined Air Force B-1 bombers over the skies of Ellsworth AFB, S.D., this summer to train for electronic warfare. The Navy’s Electronic Attack Squadron 129, from NAS Whidbey Island, Wash., practiced hindering a simulated enemy’s ability to acquire and engage the Lancers during exercises in June and again from July 11 to July 22, according to a 28th Bomb Wing release. Air Force Lt. Col. Allen Geist, commander of the 390th Electronic Combat Squadron, said Ellsworth’s Powder River training complex is beneficial because of its size and the threat emitters it has. The training “builds the foundation for the electronic weapons officers to have the expertise to take down enemy integrated air defense systems,” he said, according to the release.
