A US Navy jet crashed Sunday night southwest of NAS Kingsville, Texas, the Navy announced Monday. Both pilots of the T-45C Goshawk, assigned to Training Squadron 21, ejected safely, according to a news release. The crash occurred during a routine training mission, and the cause is under investigation. The services have been hit by a number of jet mishaps in recent months. Just over a week ago, a Navy F/A-18C Hornet crashed near NAS Fallon, Nev.
The U.S. military is maintaining a beefed-up presence in the Middle East, including fighters and air defense assets, following the U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities June 22 and subsequent retaliation by the Iranians against Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar.
