Groundbreaking for Intelligence Center Expansion

Officials at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio, broke ground on the new building that will support the National Air and Space Intelligence Center’s foreign material exploitation mission, reported the Fairborn Daily Herald. Construction of the 58,000-square-foot building will take two to three years to complete. The new $29.5 million addition will triple the size of the current FME facility, while doubling the amount of laboratory space, states the newspaper’s report. “As potential adversaries, such as China and Russia, continue to develop and invest in cutting-edge technologies, it’s critical that we maintain a robust exploitation capability here at Wright-Patterson,” said Rep. Michael Turner (R), in whose district Wright-Patt lies, at the June 19 groundbreaking. The facility “will consolidate operations, creating a secure, modern facility to expedite research on foreign threats,” states a release from Sen. Sherrod Brown (D). NASIC is headquartered at Wright-Patt. “What you give us is an advantage against every adversary out there,” Gen. Hawk Carlisle, head of Air Combat Command, told the center’s employees at the groundbreaking.
