The 2016 Department of Defense Warrior Games ended Tuesday night after nearly a week of competition. About 250 wounded, ill, and injured service members and veterans of the US and UK armed forces competed in eight sporting events—archery, cycling, shooting, sitting volleyball, swimming, track and field, wheelchair basketball, and the Ultimate Champion competition—between June 15 and June 21 at the US Military Academy in West Point, N.Y., according to the event website. Former Air Force MSgt. Reese Hines, a first-time competitor, received the Ultimate Champion award after earning the most points in five events, according to an Air Force release. Hines medically retired from the service after spending 13 years as an explosive ordnance disposal technician due to injuries he sustained when an IED he was attempting to deactivate in Afghanistan was remotely detonated. The Air Force volleyball team won a gold medal after beating the team representing US Special Operations Command twice, according to a Pentagon news article. The Army’s wheelchair basketball team took home the final gold medal handed out after beating the Marine Corps’ squad. The Navy will host the next Warrior Games in Chicago next June.

While none of the major aircraft contractors were selected to develop the Collaborative Combat Aircraft, all three say they are seeking further autonomous aircraft work for the Navy, foreign partners, or in the classified arena, and maybe future versions of the CCA itself.
