? The Air Force has asked industry for ideas on creating the command and control of a “proactive defense” against cyber threats. The presolicitation notice, dated July 23, outlines service officials’ interest in finding contractors to help identify a C2 capability that orchestrates the dynamic employment of moving target defenses to protect the Air Force’s network and assure mission success. “By providing mobility to static network and computing resources within the enterprise, we create uncertainty for the attacker and can outmaneuver attacks to critical cyber infrastructure,” reads the notice. “However, without a command and control structure to plan, assess, and execute a coordinated defense, we may expose a larger attack surface to the network and increase the risk of cyber fratricide.” White papers are due by Aug. 29.
Depot-level maintenance took longer than expected for nearly three-quarters of Air Force aircraft from fiscal 2019-2024, according to a new report, as unplanned repairs rise across the aging fleet. The report, from the Government Accountability Office, also found that the extent of the delays has been masked because officials often revise their target timelines after unplanned work occurs.
