A recently completed barracks project provides some additional 300 new dorms with 600 bed spaces to support airmen and service members deployed to support Southwest Asia operations, according to an Air Forces Central Command release. The $7.8 million project supports the growing number of US military personnel supporting Operation Inherent Resolve and other ongoing missions in and around the Arabian Gulf. The dorms, known as re-locatable billets, or RLBs, were built at an undisclosed Air Expeditionary Wing in the region— an effort that has been under way since 2011, in order to make living arrangements more equitable for deployed service members. The two-person RLBs will help reduce overcrowding, according to wing Expeditionary Force Support Squadron officials. Several AEWs in and around Southwest Asia support OIR operations, such as the 27 airstrikes flown in Iraq and Syria on Sunday, according to US Central Command.
