US Air Forces in Europe airmen are in the Darfur region of the Sudan to provide logistics support for members of the Rwandan Defense Forces. USAFE has provided the airmen and contracted for airlift transport for some 1,200 RDF troops on an African Union mission in Darfur. During earlier missions, USAFE airmen used contract airlift and C-130s to transport 2,500 Rwandan troops and more than 150,000 pounds of equipment and supplies.
The U.S. sent Air Force F-16s over central Syria in a show of force following the Dec. 13 killing of two U.S. Army Soldiers and one American civilian interpreter by a gunman linked to the Islamic State group.
