The 36th Munitions Squadron at Andersen AFB, Guam, inspected, re-palletized, loaded, and delivered more than over 7,700 M117 bombs to a Navy installation in the Marianas Islands, reports MSgt. Allison Day of the Guam Pacific Edge. The 750-pound bombs are remnants of the Vietnam War and were partially demilitarized three years ago but have been waiting for removal since a contractor defaulted. During the operation, squadron members determined that 20 of the bombs were unsafe for transport; an explosive ordinance disposal team destroyed the bombs.
The Space Development Agency says it’s on track to issue its next batch of missile warning and tracking satellite contracts this month after those awards were delayed by the Pentagon’s decision to divert funds from the agency to pay troops during this fall’s prolonged government shutdown.
