Air Force Space Command plans to redesignate one unit and inactivate several organizations today toward redefining 14th Air Force into a new component-numbered air force named 14th Air Force (Air Forces Strategic-Space). The space C-NAF element gaining a new designation is the 614th Space Operations Group, now called the 614th Air and Space Operations Center. The units being deactivated are the 614th Space Intelligence Group, 614th Space Intelligence Squadron, and 614th Space Operations Squadron. Manpower for these units switches over to the 614th AOC.
When Space Force leaders started talking about expanding the service early this year, the idea was simple: double the size of the force in the next five years. At AFA’s Air, Space & Cyber conference this week, officials detailed just how they’re planning to grow so much so quickly.
