Partial Assessment

The Total Force Task Force—established by the Air Force to determine the appropriate mix of Active Duty, Air National Guard, and Air Force Reserve—only had time to look at 50 percent of the mission areas within the Air Force, said Lt. Gen. James Jackson, AFR chief. “They also only talked to about 50-to-55 percent of the personnel,” said Jackson on Monday in his address at AFA’s 2013 Air and Space Conference. “Given that, there is still another 50 percent of the Total Force that probably should be looked at to see if there are opportunities there to be more efficient,” he said. However, Jackson said the TF2 team—which included a two-star general from each of the Air Force’s three components—did a good job considering the limited amount of time that it had.
