Air Force Reserve Command’s 302nd Airlift Wing test fired a Modular Airborne Firefighting System (MAFFS) II April 22 at its Peterson AFB, Colo., base in preparation for the 2010 wildfire season. The wing has sent some 115 operations and maintenance airmen to South Carolina this week for the US Forest Service’s MAFFS certification week at the South Carolina Technology and Aviation Center in Greenville. An F-16 Fighting Falcon assigned to the Texas Air National Guard’s 149th Fighter Wing crashed during a training mission in Michigan on Sept. 17. The fighter's sole pilot ejected and is in stable condition at a local hospital.
