Band of the Pacific Bids Adieu to Elmendorf

The Air Force Band of the Pacific recently bid farewell to JB Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, ending its 70-year legacy as the only band at the base, announced base officials. The band’s inactivation came as a result of an Air Force leadership decision several years ago to reduce the size of the force, according to Elmendorf’s release. Since its formation in 1941, the Band of the Pacific provided rock, jazz, and ceremonial orchestra groups for various events held on and off the base. It was “so vital to events that have happened in Alaska,” said MSgt. Mike Williams, noncommissioned officer in charge of the band’s rock group, in the July 11 release. The band played its final concert in December, but members continued to perform through the end of May. (Elmendorf report by A1C Tammie Ramsouer)
