Air Force Marathon officials at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio, report a record turnout for the 13th running of the annual event, which hosted nearly 10,000 runners—a 35 percent bump up from last year. The winner of the men’s full marathon was Dave Johnston from Xenia, Ohio; the winner of the women’s full marathon was 2nd Lt. (we believe) Kate Papenberg, assigned to RAF Lakenheath; and the winner of the full marathon, wheeled division, was Michael Postell from Snellville, Ga. Other winners, including those for the half marathon and shorter runs are listed in this news release.
The six-week government shutdown did not affect the hours flown by Air Force pilots, a service spokesperson told Air & Space Forces Magazine—avoiding what could have been a major blow at a time when flying hours are already lower than they have been in decades.
