Moscow plans to provide the Russian Air Force two strategic bombers—new and modernized Tu-22, Tu-95, or Tu-160 bombers—every three years, reports the Russian news and information agency. The Russian Air Force got an upgraded Tu-160 last year and will get another next month.
The emphasis on speed in the Pentagon’s newly unveiled slate of acquisition reforms may come with increased near-term cost increases, analysts say. But according to U.S. defense officials, the new weapons-buying construct provides the military with enough flexibility to prevent runaway budget overruns in major programs.
