Tinker AFB, Okla., officials have named the base’s new military working dog kennel facility after security forces dog handler TSgt. Jason Norton. Norton was killed near Taji, Iraq, on Jan. 22, 2006, when his vehicle struck an improvised explosive device. At the time of his death, he served with the 3rd Security Forces Squadron at Elmendorf AFB, Alaska, but he had spent four years with Tinker’s 72nd Security Forces Squadron.
Dozens of fighter jets gathered at Tyndall Air Force Base in Florida last week to kick off one of the service’s biggest air combat exercises despite the government shutdown. More than 50 aircraft and 500 personnel are participating in Checkered Flag 26-1.
