Six of the nine current projects will aid the beddown of C-17 airlifters at the Air Mobility Command base. Those nine projects amount to $119 million and include such things as a new control tower and youth center. Dover’s current control tower, built in 1955, is the oldest one in the states. Sen. Joseph Biden (D), who attended the briefing, commended the Dover team, saying it had been “operating at a back-breaking pace, and there is no indication that the workload will diminish or the need will subside anytime soon.”
