Lt. Gen. Brooks Bash, vice commander of Air Mobility Command, ferried the first C-5M Super Galaxy to its new home at the 60th Air Mobility Wing at Travis AFB, Calif., last week from Lockheed Martin’s facility in Marietta, Ga. Lockheed has delivered 19 of a total of 52 Super Galaxies to the Air Force, but this is the first for the West Coast, states a May 8 company release.
The Air Force is launching an effort to develop a new stand-off missile with a range of 1,000 nautical miles, or 1,150 miles, that would eventually be used for both air-to-air and air-to-surface missions.
