The UN is saying that last month’s deadly attack on an aid convoy headed to Aleppo, Syria, was an airstrike—further implicating the Syrian regime and Russia in the incident. The UN Institute for Training and Research’s Operational Satellite Applications Program said during a Wednesday news conference that it has determined an airstrike hit the convoy, killing at least 20 people and destroying 18 trucks full of aid supplies, Al Jazeera reported. US officials have said two Russian Su-24s were in the area during the strike, a charge Russia denies. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said last week he is establishing an internal UN board of inquiry into the attack. The incident is one of several recently that have led to a breakdown in relations between Russia and the US on Syrian policy.
