Officials at Schriever AFB, Colo., activated the 21st Medical Squadron during a ceremony. The squadron, which resides under the 21st Medical Group, will provide comprehensive medical care to more than 5,000 beneficiaries annually, according to a June 26 Schriever release. More than 50 officers, enlisted personnel, and civilians will staff the unit, which stood up on June 22. “I have no doubt this newly minted squadron will continue to uphold 21st Medical Group’s tradition of excellence, while expertly and professionally serving the health care needs of Schriever Air Force Base,” said Col. Chris Crawford, commander of the 21st Space Wing, which is headquartered at Peterson AFB, Colo. The squadron “means our 520 space operators have a very efficient way of getting medically cleared to do their jobs,” said Col. James Ross, Schriever’s 50th SW boss. (Schriever report by SSgt. The Space Development Agency says it’s on track to issue its next batch of missile warning and tracking satellite contracts this month after those awards were delayed by the Pentagon’s decision to divert funds from the agency to pay troops during this fall’s prolonged government shutdown.
