The 23rd 
Wing at Moody AFB, Ga., has returned to its heritage by adopting the legendary “Flying Tigers” motto on the patch worn by its airmen, announced wing officials. The Army Institute of Heraldry recently approved the new rendition of the emblem, which replaces “23rd Wing” with “Flying Tigers,” according to a June 5 Moody release. “The purpose of this change is to signify the return to the Flying Tigers historical roots and to identify Moody as the home of the Flying Tigers,” states the release. The history of the Flying Tigers can be traced back to 1941 and the 23rd Fighter Group that contained elements of the disbanded American Volunteer Group, the Flying Tigers. The 23rd Wing operates A-10 ground-attack aircraft that carry the shark-toothed nose art of original Flying Tigers. (Moody release by SSgt. Melissa Mekpongsatorn)
