Five Marines are receiving treatment after their MV-22 Osprey landed in shallow water near Okinawa on Tuesday. Airmen and an? HH-60G from the 33rd Rescue Squadron at Kadena AB, Japan, responded and airlifted the aircrew to a Naval Hospital on Camp Foster, according to a news release from the III Marine Expeditionary Force. There is no additional information on the cause of the crash, and a formal investigation has begun. It is the second Marine Corps mishap near Japan this month. On Dec. 7, Capt. Jake Frederick was killed when his F/A-18C crashed near Iwakuni.
The Air Force has embraced new technical approaches like open mission systems and rapid software updates for cutting-edge aircraft like the B-21 and Collaborative Combat Aircraft. Increasingly, though, the service is also working to apply these to its older, “legacy” aircraft, officials said this week.
