T
he Arnold Engineering Development Center in Tennessee has dedicated an F-4C Phantom it has on static display to two airmen who flew with the 555th Tactical Fighter Squadron during the Vietnam War. They are: Col. Lawrence Golberg and Maj. Patrick Wynne, the brother of Air Force Secretary Michael Wynne. Golberg and Patrick Wynne were killed on an Aug. 8, 1966 reconnaissance mission flown out of Ubon RTAB, Thailand. The aircraft is similar to the one they flew and did serve with the 555th TFS. (Report by Stephanie Warrren and Janae Daniels.)
The six-week government shutdown did not affect the hours flown by Air Force pilots, a service spokesperson told Air & Space Forces Magazine—avoiding what could have been a major blow at a time when flying hours are already lower than they have been in decades.
