The Air National Guard-led 1st Air Force/Air Forces Northern, headquartered at Tyndall AFB, Fla., working with the Civil Air Patrol, has supplied aerial photography of flooding in various areas of Missouri at the state’s request, said Maj. Gen. Hank Morrow, commander of 1st AF (AFNORTH), in a March 26 release. As of early this week, CAP crews had flown about 36 hours to provide more than 100 photos of stricken areas to help local and state officials assess damage and provide relief.
The six-week government shutdown did not affect the hours flown by Air Force pilots, a service spokesperson told Air & Space Forces Magazine—avoiding what could have been a major blow at a time when flying hours are already lower than they have been in decades.
