Former Air Force Academy baseball player who was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies will not get to play professional ball anytime soon. David Chu, undersecretary of defense for personnel and policy, turned down a waiver request from 2nd Lt. Karl Bolt, reports Gene Rector of The Telegraph. Like other professional athletes, Bolt will have to serve at least two years on active duty and several more in the reserves to fulfill his commitment.
The Air Force wants to pump more than $12 billion over the next five years into its new affordable long-range missiles program and recently asked industry to push the flights of some of those munitions beyond 1,200 miles.
