A C-17 transport aircraft operated by an Air Force Reserve crew from the 315th Airlift Wing at Charleston AFB, S.C., flew a mission March 15 to deliver school supplies to children of the Caribbean island nation of Dominica. Private organizations donated the pens and papers and other materials that the C-17 carried under the auspices of the US government’s Denton program, which allows donors to use space available on military cargo airplanes to deliver humanitarian goods. The Air Force is launching an effort to develop a new stand-off missile with a range of 1,000 nautical miles, or 1,150 miles, that would eventually be used for both air-to-air and air-to-surface missions.
