An Air Force Electronic Warfare Officer, Maj. Gerald Campbell, just spent six months in Afghanistan embedded with an Army unit at Forward Operating Base Sharana. Army 1st Lt. Ashley Deliavalle reports that Campbell’s job was to help train soldiers on the Army’s new Counter Remote control Electronic Warfare Systems. Campbell trained more than 700 soldiers to use CREWS to counter improvised explosive devices. The airman is 16th Electronic Warfare Squadron assistant director of operations for Air Combat Command’s 53rd Wing at Eglin AFB, Fla.
The Air Force is launching an effort to develop a new stand-off missile with a range of 1,000 nautical miles, or 1,150 miles, that would eventually be used for both air-to-air and air-to-surface missions.
