The Air Force has awarded Special Agent Gregory Carmack the Bronze Star medal for valor 36 seconds of action that stopped a suicide car bomber in Iraq, reports the Honolulu Star Bulletin. Carmack, who now is assigned to the Office of Special Investigation at Hickam AFB, Hawaii, opened fire on a pickup truck that had run over an Iraqi policeman and was trying to intercept the convoy Carmack was leading. He fired 10 rounds; seven hit the truck, killing the driver.
The Air Force is planning to spend $2.19 billion over the next five years to acquire new C-37 jets for transporting military and civilian leaders. That’s on top of another $1.17 billion in projected funding for the VC-25B “Air Force One” replacement.
