Shining Virtually:

DOD presented the 2007 Modeling and Simulation Award March 11 to the Air Force’s Distributed Mission Operations Center at Kirtland AFB, N.M. The center won for Virtual Flag, the network-centric, distributed, joint virtual wargaming, and training exercises that it runs four times a year together with the combined air operations center at Nellis AFB, Nev. “This award validates the great value of the training to the warfighter that is being provided every day by the DMOC,” said Brig. Gen. Stephen Hoog, commander of the Air Force Warfare Center. “Realistic, integrated virtual training using high-fidelity models and simulations is no longer the ‘wave of the future,’ it is the ‘here and now.’” The DMOC just hosted Virtual Flag 8-2, the second of the four exercises planned in this fiscal year; it included the participation of more than 350 joint forces across 22 locations globally. Nellis spokeswoman Lt. Jennifer Richard, told the Daily Report Thursday that the main portion of the virtual event took place March 10-13. (Includes Nellis report by Capt. Laura Ropelis)
