The Take Back the Air Guard group also has taken exception to the Air Force’s Future Total Force initiative to station active duty airmen with the Guard in Burlington, where they can gain experience working with seasoned Guardsmen. The group claims it’s an undercover way to turn the ANG facility into an active duty base. Just when we thought that most folks were unhappy when base closure action took away their facilities.
The Air Force has tapped sites in Oregon to build its first two new Over-the-Horizon Radars, capable of detecting inbound missile threats from up to 4,000 nautical miles away. The service is hoping to start construction by the end of 2028.
