US Central Command Air Forces air assets dropped eight bundles of humanitarian assistance supplies near Bamyan, Afghanistan, on Jan. 5 and 6 to aid families during harsh winter conditions. The airdrop distributed more than 14,000 pounds of winter clothing, beans, rice, cooking oil, tarps, health kits, tools, and blankets. Combined Joint Task Force 76 officials say reconstruction teams are also in the area distributing supplies alongside local governments.
The emphasis on speed in the Pentagon’s newly unveiled slate of acquisition reforms may come with increased near-term cost increases, analysts say. But according to U.S. defense officials, the new weapons-buying construct provides the military with enough flexibility to prevent runaway budget overruns in major programs.
