Veterans Affairs has awarded the state of California about $65 million to continue construction of three veterans’ facilities and renovation on a fourth, according to a May 23 VA release. Some $55 million in grants will go toward construction in West Los Angeles for a 396-bed state veteran nursing home and two 60-bed veteran domiciles and adult health care facilities, one in Ventura and one in Lancaster.
The emphasis on speed in the Pentagon’s newly unveiled slate of acquisition reforms may come with increased near-term cost increases, analysts say. But according to U.S. defense officials, the new weapons-buying construct provides the military with enough flexibility to prevent runaway budget overruns in major programs.
