USAF C-130s begin airlifting peacekeeping troops from Australia to Dili in East Timor under UN Operation Stabilise, following East Timor’s declaration of independence from Indonesia and subsequent war. In all, USAF C-130s, C-17s, C-141, and KC-135s participate.
