Coalition strike aircraft flew a total of 38 close air support missions in Afghanistan and 57 in Iraq on June 28, Air Forces Central said in a release. This included F-15E Strike Eagles dropping 500-pound joint direct attack munitions and a 2,000-pound JDAM onto anti-Afghan government forces in the vicinity of Asadabad, Afghanistan, and A-10 Warthogs hitting enemy forces near Sar Hawzeh with 500-pound laser-guided bombs and 500-pound general-purpose bombs as well as cannon rounds and rockets, AFCENT said.
Airmen basic rarely go on to become four-star generals, but one who did retired last week after a 42 year career that saw him rise from a lowly slick-sleeve to the head of one of the Air Force’s most important major commands.
