The 673rd Air Base Wing has begun operations at Joint Base Elmendorf in Alaska. It is the supporting unit for the new joint installation created under BRAC 2005 by combining Elmendorf Air Force Base with Fort Richardson Army Garrison near Anchorage. Lt. Gen. The Air Force is launching an effort to develop a new stand-off missile with a range of 1,000 nautical miles, or 1,150 miles, that would eventually be used for both air-to-air and air-to-surface missions.
