Negotiations Under Way for Travis Solar Farm

Talks are under way between the Air Force and enXco of San Diego, a US subsidiary of France’s EDF-Energies Nouvelles, to develop a 27-megawatt solar energy array at Travis AFB, Calif., announced Air Force Real Property Agency officials earlier this month. The agency is negotiating the terms of a property lease deal with the company for three land parcels totaling 195 acres where the solar farm would be located. The solar initiative is proceeding under the auspices of the Enhanced Use Lease program that allows the Air Force to lease property in exchange for cash or in-kind consideration from private developers. “This project will be another great example of the power of EUL to develop renewable energy projects that benefit the Air Force, our supporting communities, and the nation,” said Air Force installations boss Kathleen Ferguson, in a Sept. 14 release. She approved enXco’s selection as the “highest ranked offeror” in August, states the release.
