On June 21, the remains of Capt. Clyde W. Campbell of Longview, Tex., will be buried with full military honors in Arlington National Cemetery, Va., announced the Pentagon. Campbell had been missing in action for 43 years since his A-1J Skyraider crashed during a close air support mission on March 1, 1969, over Houaphan Province, Laos, according to the Defense Department’s June 20 release. He was 24 years old when he went missing. Between 1997 and 2010, US-Lao teams excavated the crash site. They recovered human remains, aircraft wreckage, and military equipment, including an aircraft data plate and Campbell’s government-issued .38 caliber pistol, that led to his identification, states the release.
