The Defense Department launched the third iteration of the DOD health related behaviors survey in an effort to gauge lifestyle and health trends in the reserve component, according to a Dec. 2 release. For the first time, Guard and Reserve personnel will be asked to complete the entire survey online. The survey examines alcohol, tobacco, and illicit drug use; mental health and stress; deployment history; sexual health; and other health-related issues. Results of the survey will be available in 2015 and will be used to develop healthcare policy, assess military personnel’s progress towards the Healthy People 2020 goals, and help direct funding into appropriate lifestyle and fitness programs.
