The Air Force has awarded a Bronze Star medal to MSgt. Krisah Herron for her work as an explosive ordnance disposal team leader while deployed to the Multinational Force-Iraq in Baghdad. Herron, who is assigned to the 39th Air Base Wing at Incirlik AB, Turkey, responded to 37 emergencies over a 919-kilometer area that included dealing with 10 improvised explosive devices, 11 weapons caches, and three unexploded ordnance situations. The U.S. began extensive air and artillery strikes against Islamic State group targets in Syria on Dec. 19 in retaliation for the killing of three Americans on Dec. 13 by a gunman affiliated with ISIS, U.S. officials said.
