Officials with the Air Force and the St. Louis County Port Authority have reached agreement on the transfer of 39 acres of land to the port authority. The National Imagery Mapping Agency once used the property that the federal government declared excess in 2005. The White House views the initiative as a “profile in citizen stewardship,” say USAF officials.
The Air Force has embraced new technical approaches like open mission systems and rapid software updates for cutting-edge aircraft like the B-21 and Collaborative Combat Aircraft. Increasingly, though, the service is also working to apply these to its older, “legacy” aircraft, officials said this week.
