Air Force Space Command’s Space and Missile Systems Center at Los Angeles has contracted with ITT for another two years to provide systems engineering at the nation’s two space launch facilities—the eastern range at Cape Canaveral AFS, Fla., and western range at Vandenberg AFB, Calif. The contract is worth $18.3 million and runs to October 2008.
The emphasis on speed in the Pentagon’s newly unveiled slate of acquisition reforms may come with increased near-term cost increases, analysts say. But according to U.S. defense officials, the new weapons-buying construct provides the military with enough flexibility to prevent runaway budget overruns in major programs.
