The Department of Veterans Affairs says it has selected a downtown site in New Orleans to reconstruct a VA Medical Center in the hurricane-ravaged city. First, though, it has to undergo the obligatory environmental assessment, and then the VA will make it final decision and begin acquisition of the land. And, out west, the VA has completed a contracted study of plans for Los Angeles that include new services for homeless veterans. VA will reveal the study’s recommendations on Sept. 6.
The Senate voted Nov. 10 to approve a stopgap funding bill that would reopen the federal government and keep it funded through January, a significant step toward ending the longest shutdown in U.S. history.
