The Air Force has inactivated the Command and Control, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance Battlelab at Langley AFB, Va., after some 10 years of operation. As we reported earlier this year, the Air Force decided to close all seven of its battlelabs because of overall money woes. All seven are due to close by Oct. 1.
The Air Force has embraced new technical approaches like open mission systems and rapid software updates for cutting-edge aircraft like the B-21 and Collaborative Combat Aircraft. Increasingly, though, the service is also working to apply these to its older, “legacy” aircraft, officials said this week.
