The Air Force plans to use the dedication of the Air Force Memorial—set for Oct. 14—as the launch pad for the service’s 60th anniversary year celebration. The theme of the commemoration is “From Heritage to Horizons—Commemorating 60 Years of Air & Space Power.” Officials expect an overflow crowd at the dedication for the memorial, so USAF plans to offer a simulcast presentation in the Pentagon South Parking, which also is to be the site for a daylong Air Force open house. Air Force depots are not typically meant for quick repair jobs, but during Operation Epic Fury, the service moved some of its stateside heavy maintenance capability forward to fix battle-damaged aircraft closer to the fight.
