The Air Force plans to use the dedication of the Air Force Memorial—set for Oct. 14—as the launch pad for the service’s 60th anniversary year celebration. The theme of the commemoration is “From Heritage to Horizons—Commemorating 60 Years of Air & Space Power.” Officials expect an overflow crowd at the dedication for the memorial, so USAF plans to offer a simulcast presentation in the Pentagon South Parking, which also is to be the site for a daylong Air Force open house. The six-week government shutdown did not affect the hours flown by Air Force pilots, a service spokesperson told Air & Space Forces Magazine—avoiding what could have been a major blow at a time when flying hours are already lower than they have been in decades.
