Various news reports note that India on Sunday test-fired a long-range, nuclear-capable missile, but it also went into the drink shortly after takeoff, like North Korea’s Taepo Dong II. This launch has brought little international alarm, however, the timing probably could have been better. (Reportedly India notified Pakistan before the test.)
The Air Force is launching an effort to develop a new stand-off missile with a range of 1,000 nautical miles, or 1,150 miles, that would eventually be used for both air-to-air and air-to-surface missions.
