The Pentagon has announced the departure of DOD intelligence chief Stephen Cambone. (We reported last month that Cambone headed the rumor list of those Rumsfeld protégés expected to leave.) According to a statement, Cambone’s last official day will be Dec. 31 and he has “no specific plans” other than to spend time with his family. Peter Flory, who served for five of Rumsfeld’s six years, will move from the Pentagon to NATO, where he is to be the assistant secretary general for defense investment. A Pentagon statement said Flory, who most recently served as assistant defense secretary for international security policy, will take his NATO post in January.
The Air Force plans to conduct more intensive training—and Congress is set to help by boosting funding for exercises and so-called “campaigning” by hundreds of millions of dollars, particularly in the Pacific.
